Husky, musher visit Hubenak Elementary |

Travis White, a fourth-grade student at Hubenak Elementary, tries on 50 lbs. of clothing as part of the presentation of Karen Land, a three-time participant in the Iditarod Dog Race. To ward off the sub-zero temperatures, "mushers" must wear layer upon layer of clothing to avoid frostbite. Land’s Alaskan Husky, Borage, accompanied her to Hubenak. Land visits schools across the United States when she is not training her dogs for races. Land’s visit was made possible through a grant from the Lamar Educational Awards Foundation (L.E.A.F.) Hubenak librarian Angelia Seagroves wrote the winning grant. -30-
